Harold Hirsch

Temple member and President Harold Hirsch was the lead attorney for The Coca-Cola Company for more than thirty years. In the first half of the twentieth century, he helped design the iconic glass bottle and served as president of The Temple from 1930 to 1934. Hirsch also expressed significant interest in the well-being of Jews outside the United States, and beginning in 1933, Hirsch maintained correspondence with Rabbi Jonah Wise in New York City concerning the persecution of Jews in Europe and Nazi Germany.

Hirsch established the Jewish Welfare Fund in 1936 to raise money for European Jewish emigration, and raised more than $50,000 during the first campaign. Hirsch attended the University of Georgia (UGA), where he was lineman on the football team from 1900 to 1901. UG named named Hirsch Hall in his honor.
