Simon “Slick” Selig Jr. was born in Atlanta, attended Boys High School, and earned a B.A. in business administration from the University of Georgia. He served in the military for five years during World War II achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. Three years later, the company name changed to Selig Enterprises, and they developed Suburban Plaza, Ansley Mall, AAA parking facilities, Buckhead Triangle, Logan Circle, Brookwood Place, and a large portion of midtown Atlanta. Selig was active in both the Jewish and general organizations in the community, including Israel Bonds, The Temple, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Yaarab Shrine, B’nai B’rith, the Commerce Club and the Standard Club.

In appreciation of his generous contributions to the University of Georgia, the university designated the Selig Circle, located in front of the new football building. The Simon Selig Jr. Center for Economic Growth at UGA’s Terry College of Business, established in 1990, conducts research on economic, demographic, and social issues related to Georgia’s current and future growth. The Selig Center also publishes the college’s annual “Georgia Economic Outlook” forecast and produces commissioned studies for the state and the private sector.
